We were happy to return to the Cathedral of the Madeleine and to its Choir School for a second summer week of sacred music and liturgy. Scores for the works sung at the Colloquium can be found in the music book.
Monday, June 17
Our first sung prayer of the week was the Veni Creator Spiritus. This recording starts at the second stanza:
And at the opening dinner, CMAA’s publications director Jeffrey Tucker began with words of encouragement for first-time attendees; he also introduced remarks by chaplain Fr. Robert Pasley; composer Arlene Oost-Zinner; and CMAA president Professor William Mahrt:
Tuesday, June 18
Msgr. Andrew Wadsworth spoke to the Colloquium with “Personal reflections on the influence of the liturgy”:

The first Mass of the Colloquium, offered that afternoon by Fr. Pasley, was in English, with the Mass ordinary from the Roman Missal, and with propers from Adam Bartlett (Simple English Propers) and Arlene Oost-Zinner (Parish Book of Psalms). David Hughes was the organist.
Charles Cole completed the day with an organ recital at the Cathedral, with the participation of choristers from the Cathedral Choir for the Salve Regina by Olivier Latry:
Wednesday, June 19
Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon presented a plenary address on Wednesday afternoon, introduced by Msgr. Wadsworth:

Thursday, June 20
A Requiem Mass in the Extraordinary Form was offered Thursday for departed members of CMAA at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Monsignor Andrew Wadsworth, Executive Director of ICEL, was the celebrant, and his homily is available at NLM.

Friday, June 21
Dr. Mahrt spoke on Friday morning on the transcendent aspects of beauty:
In the late afternoon, Fr. Pasley offered Mass in the Extraordinary Form, for the feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga. David Hughes was the organist, and the Colloquium attendees sang Gregorian Mass VII.
After dinner, the participants met for the observance of Vespers. Ann Labounsky was organist, and the men’s and women’s scholas sang the psalms. The hymn Iste confessor by Victoria and the Magnificat by Jean Mouton were sung under the direction of Dr. Buchholz.
Saturday, June 22
Rev. Jonathan Gaspar, Secretary for Divine Worship in the Archdiocese of Boston, offered a Votive Mass of Our Lady on this Saturday. The Mass was in the Ordinary Form, in Latin, and the choirs of Wilko Brouwers and Gregory Glenn sang the Missa osculetur me by Lassus. Jonathan Ryan was the organist.
Sunday, June 23
The closing Mass was also a parish Mass of the Cathedral, in English, with Latin propers and motets, for the 12th Sunday of the Year (Year C).
The celebrant was Msgr. Joseph Mayo, and the organist was Doug O’Neill. The Mass ordinary was from Jeffrey Ostrowski’s Mass of the English Martyrs.
